The Iron Pin Ceremony

This ceremony marks your entry into the UBC Vancouver Engineering community, and symbolizes your first major step into the engineering profession.  On this day, you will ratify our community values and Code of Ethics, and adopt them as your own.

Five years ago, a number of events began a wave of discussions around what we, as a community, valued. These words became actions, and the actions led to change. This ceremony is a community covenant – a pledge to uphold our mutual values and support each other. Today, the idea of the Iron Pin ceremony has expanded from coast to coast - from Vancouver Island University all the way to Memorial University of Newfoundland. This affirms that the values we place in ethics and goodwill are mutually shared among our peers.
